About

I’m a freelance web writer who moved to Mallorca, Spain, in April 2008, along with my boyfriend, Chris. We’re typical Mallorcan immigrants – I’m English, he’s German.

I’m in my late twenties early thirties (gulp) and was looking for a change, having lived and worked in London for five years. Chris found a job on the island and it felt like the right time to try something new.

It’s been a learning curve for both of us. He speaks Spanish and has full-time work, but in a new industry. I had six months of Spanish evening classes in London before moving here, and I’ve moved from full-time employment to freelance work.

I started this blog to keep friends and family entertained. Hopefully there’ll also be little snippets that might be of help to anyone else who’s thinking of moving out here, or even just visiting.

‘Why ‘Roast beef and rioja’?’ I hear you cry (maybe). It’s an English-Spanish fusion; roast dinners and red wine. And, yes, I know Rioja’s not in Mallorca but it begins with ‘r’ and it’s Spanish.

Finally, take a look at my other little pet project: www.extrememallorca.com. It’s an attempt to promote the more adventurous side of the island and to take the work out of looking for it.
